Great Blue Heron

New watercolor on Arches 300lb cold press paper, Great Blue Heron 31” x 25” In watercolor it’s important to save the white of the paper. In this piece I only added a touch of white paint to reestablish the wispy ends of the herons chest feathers. Everything else is negative painting (painting behind). I like to mix my colors on the paper preferring not to use any straight from the tube. Each feather has several different variations of color to them.
